October's Author: Mary Downing Hahn
Mary Downing Hahn has been writing children's books for over 30 years. A former librarian, she has over 2 million copies of her books in print. She has written some historical fiction and realistic fiction, but she is most well known for her haunting mysteries and horror stories. She has won many awards for her books.
When she was young, she disliked writing, instead putting all of her time into art. She loved to tell stories, however, and she would tell her stories through her art -- in pictures. Eventually, she grew to love writing, although she has not lost her love for art.
Mary currently lives in Maryland, where she was born and raised. She has two grown daughters, and continues to spend her time writing even today.
